What’s happening 📰
🔋 Superbatteries will transform the performance of EVs - Skeleton’s Supper batteries have 50,000 charging cycles and 1-minute fast charging. (This might be one huge leap as we can power heavy machinaries with this)
💰 NVDA 0.00%↑ is printing some serious money, they made a whopping $13.51 billion (101% from a year ago) in Q2 of 2023.
🏠 Zerodha received the final approval for its AMC - Zerodha Fund House aims to be index-only (remember how Navi began?) and create simple funds and ETFs that all investors can understand and invest in for all their goals. Currently, the Kamath brothers are just killing it in the fintech space!
🦙 Code Llama released - Meta fine-tuned Llama 2 on its code-specific dataset which outperformed SOTA publicly-available models. It is released in three versions.
Curious to see what the community does with it.The community is killing it for real!
excel.pyYup! Microsoft is bringing Python into your
sheetsExcel. This will destroy half the no-code startups (If you ask me, I’m personally rooting to bring Typescript to PowerPoint one day haha)
✨ AI Wrapup
🌕 Ex-Google CEO Eric Schmidt to launch AI-science Moonshot, basically he is trying to start a similar organization to OpenAI, where the best minds in computer science can gather and
be evilbuild for humanity. (good decade to be alive)
🤡 AI-generated art isn’t copyright-able says US Supreme Court. (Ah! I have mixed feelings but I’m very convinced this is in our favor.)
🛰️ China launched AI to space, they basically shipped the satellite with an intelligent processing unit that can analyze images of Earth without sending them back to us. They say it can analyze “10,000 km² in just a few hours instead of 180 days.”
📻 You can now fine-tune ChatGPT & the same is coming for GPT-4 in a few months. (seems like people are noticing that generic chat models ain’t helping them generate enough human-like content, so now with the new fine-tuning for these models)
What brings us to awe 😳
🌘 Chandrayaan 3 has landed on the moon! and India 🇮🇳 became the 1st country on the lunar south pole (the dark side) & 4th to land on the moon.
Why is this important? => Well, it’s difficult to land on the South Pole as the terrain is bumpy, but this is an important advancement for humanity, as the South Pole is apparently more habitable & is expected to have water and more stuff.
🌚 Amazon is trying out a “Dark” pattern for showing product ratings. And it’s not for the customer, but to the customer, By Seth Godin
🔓 Python GIL - Unless you have been living under a rock (OR don’t work with Python OR didn’t read #18), you must have heard of GIL being removed from Python. It’s being removed because GIL serializes access to the interpreter's virtual machine such that only one thread can execute Python code at any given time.
🎨 Midjourney evolved from Nibbler A’s sketches (🤡) → Nibbler P’s sketches (clearly an artist, btw!) in just 1 year.
🐖 Do you know where the word “spam” originated from? (No!Nott by Neha from ClearTax). => Spam is a portmanteau1 of ‘Spiced ham’ and is in fact a proprietary trademark of Hormel Foods. In an episode of Monty Python, a restaurant menu delved into endless repetitions of the word ‘spam’, which inspired modern repetitive junk mail to be named spam. Now you know why some spam classifiers often mark safe mails as ‘ham’. Because both are foods except one doesn’t come with all the spice and masala, duh!
؎ Add dir="auto" to your inputs and textareas - If you have been developing on the web, would have encountered this problem wherein your user wants to type something right to left but the textbox is fixed for left to right languages only? Just add
dir=autoand that is enough! Couldn’t have been simpler than that.
🍯 Honey is a superfood, it has everything required to sustain life and more.

What are we up to?
Nibbler P was overworked and overappreciated this week (kind of opposites isn’t it?). Read some Franz Kafka, played some badminton, and is contemplating to start watching One Piece. Should he start?
Nibbler A watched some FIDE matches (like he knows how to play that game). But seriously, he is now onto a 40-hour chess week. Planning to touch some grass again and is ready to face the withdrawal symptoms of chess.
